Natural Remedies or treatments for Gum Disease

Gingivitis or gum disease is inflammation of the gum tissues of the mouth characterized by symptoms like persistent bad breath, red or swollen gums, bleeding gums, receding gums, loose teeth and several other problems that need to be taken seriously.

Natural home remedies in treating gum disease are possible, and can help to cure various gum problems.

Here are the top 10 home remedies for gum disease:

1. Reduce stress
Stress can make an individual more susceptible to harmful habits that negatively impact oral health. “Stress may lead an individual to abuse tobacco or alcohol, and to possibly even neglect his or her oral hygiene.

These lifestyle choices are known risk factors for the development of periodontal disease, which has been connected to several other chronic diseases, including heart disease and diabetes.” People under stress have a compromised immune system that makes it harder for them to fight of the bacteria and makes them more prone to gum infections

2. Sea Salt
The simplest and most common way to relieve pain and discomfort from gum disease is the natural sea salt because it contains minerals that reduce inflammation, ease pain and draw out any infection.
Mix a small amount of sea salt in a cup of warm water until it dissolves completely.
Use it as a mouth rinse, swishing it around in your mouth for a few seconds.
Do this twice times a day until your symptoms subside.

3. Tea Bags
Steep a tea bag in hot water for 2-3 minutes, and then allow it to cool.
Place the tea bag on the affected area for three to five minutes.
Repeat a few times a day until you get relief.19.5

4. Rub on some honey
Once you brush your teeth, rub a small amount of honey on the problem area of your gums.

5. Cranberry Juice
Cranberry juice is good for fighting gum disease and infection due to its high vitamin C content.
Simply drink about 4 ounces, of the unsweetened juice daily to help prevent bacteria from sticking to your teeth.

6. Make a lemon paste
Make a paste from the juice of one lemon and some salt. Mix it and apply to your teeth. Let it sit for a few minutes and gargle with warm water to rinse it off.

7. Eat more C-rich foods

8.Increase your intake of vitamin D.
Get your vitamin D fix by soaking up the sun at least 15 to 20 minutes twice a week and eating D-rich foods such as salmon, whole eggs, sunflower seeds, and cod liver oil.

9.Brush with baking soda.
Baking soda neutralizes the acids in your mouth, thereby reducing the chances of tooth decay and gum disease, so it’s more of a preventive measure than an actual treatment for gum disease. Add a small amount of baking soda to a bit of warm water and mix to form a paste. Use this paste to brush your teeth.

10.Give up tobacco.
Tobacco decreases your ability to fight infection and delays healing. Tobacco users are more likely than nonsmokers to have serious gum disease that doesn’t respond as well to treatment and that leads to tooth loss.
