Not fewer than 20 troopers have been killed and a number of other different injured in an ambush by Boko Haram terrorists on Tuesday in Borno, DailyTrust has reported.


The unhappy incident occurred throughout an ambush, sources have stated.


It was learnt that the incident occurred alongside Damboa/Maiduguri freeway at about 30 kilometers away from Damboa city.


A safety supply stated that the terrorists opened fireplace on troops which resulted within the deaths of many troopers.


“It was so unhappy, our troops went on clearing operations on the way in which again to Damboa at 30 kilometers away.


“The terrorists laid an ambushed and shot from each angle.


“We misplaced greater than a dozen troopers.


“The corpses of the troopers have been evacuated to Maiduguri in addition to those that sustained injures.


“They’re presently receiving remedy within the army facility,” a safety supply stated.


However, the Defence Headquarters is insisting that that’s not what occurred.


It stated troops of Operation Lafiya Dole, on July 7,  eradicated 17 Boko Haram/Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP) insurgents within the ambush.


The Coordinator, Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. John Enenche, in an announcement on Wednesday, stated that solely two troopers died, whereas 4 have been wounded within the encounter.


Enenche stated the success was recorded by the troops of 25 Process Drive Brigade, deployed at Damboa at the side of components of Sector 2 Particular Forces, whereas on clearance operations alongside the route.

He stated the troops outflanked and engaged the criminals with overwhelming quantity of fireside energy, forcing the terrorists to withdraw in disarray.


In line with him, within the aftermath of the encounter, 17 Boko Haram/ISWAP criminals have been neutralised, whereas a number of others have been believed to have narrowly escaped with various levels of gunshot wounds.


He added that cache of arms and ammunition have been equally captured by the troops.


“Regrettably, two valiant troopers paid the supreme value whereas 4 others have been wounded in motion.

“Nonetheless, the wounded in motion troopers have been evacuated to a army medical facility and presently responding positively to remedy,” he stated.
