Buhari Takes Part In Virtual ECOWAS Session On Mali

Nigeria’s primary man, President Muhammadu Buhari is presently collaborating in a digital Extraordinary Session of the Financial Neighborhood of West Africa States’ (ECOWAS) Authority of Heads of State and Authorities on the socio-political state of affairs in Mali, The Nation stories.

The session, which is being held by way of video convention, was convened following the navy coup d’etat that was executed within the Republic of Mali on Tuesday.

Additionally attending the assembly with President Buhari from Abuja are the Secretary to the Authorities of the Federation (SGF), Mr Boss Mustapha; Minister of International Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama; Minister of State, International Affairs, Ambassador Zubairu Dada; Minister of Defence, Main Basic Bashir Magashi (Rtd); Nationwide Safety Adviser (NSA), Main Basic Babagana Monguno (Rtd); the Director Basic, Nationwide Intelligence Company (NIA), Ahmed Rufa’i; and the Chief of Employees to the President, Professor Ibrahim Gambari, amongst others.

It will be recalled that insurgent forces, on Tuesday afternoon, arrested President Ibrahim Keita of Mali and his Prime Minister, Boubou Cisse, and drove the pair to a navy base on the outskirts of Bamako, which they’d seized that morning.

Keita later introduced early Wednesday that he had resigned to avert “bloodshed.”

ECOWAS, in a swift response to the coup, condemned the motion of the Coupists and vowed stiff sanctions in opposition to Mali, amongst which it mentioned, could be closure of land and air borders of West African neighbours in opposition to the nation.
