The Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma has been warned that faculties within the state will stay shut if he fails to clear accrued wage arrears being owed academics within the state.


The chairman, Nigeria Union of Lecturers (NUT) within the State, Philip Nwansi, who spoke with journalists in Owerri, on Thursday, stated that the federal government had accomplished nothing in settling their arrears of salaries regardless of assembly with the State governor, Hope Uzodinma on a number of events on the difficulty.


He stated the Governor had in a gathering with NUT some months in the past promised to clear arrears of salaries owed to academics.


Nwansi complained that up until the primary week of September, salaries of about 2000 academics within the State had not been paid for about seven months.

He additional attributed the worry of academics to reopen faculties to the coronavirus pandemic which he stated has not been correctly contained within the State.
