Enugu Farmers Living In Fear As Herdsmen Take Over Their Farmlands




Farmers in Ugbene Ajima group, Uzo-Uwani council space of Enugu State reside in a state of worry as herdsmen from the north have taken over their lands destroying their crops.


In keeping with Vanguard, a farmer from the Enugu group who gave his title as Edward Ugwu, mentioned he misplaced over N500, 000 when herdsmen harvested his cassava to feed their cattle.


In keeping with Ugwu, farmers are afraid to go to their farms locally for worry of herders assault. He mentioned there’s the worry of famine locally as most farmers have left their farms for worry of assaults.


One other farmer, Regina Iggah mentioned she has not recovered from the shock since she was attacked on her farm. Iggah mentioned her crops value over N800, 000 have been destroyed by herdsmen who allegedly invaded her farm with their cattle whilst she appealed to the state and native governments to come back to her rescue.


The normal ruler of the group, Igwe Romanus Eze confirmed that he had been receiving a collection of complaints from farmers over the destruction of their crops by herdsmen.


He mentioned he and the council chairman, Chukwudi Nnadozie have been obeying the peace initiative of the state authorities to settle all farmers/herders points amicably.

“The herdsmen downside is sort of a sucking mosquito on a person’s scrotum. Should you hit it onerous, you’ll extreme the genitals. Should you depart it there, it could suck your blood and invariably offer you malaria.

“We’ve got been suggested by the governor to handle them peacefully. Surprisingly, some farmers equally alleged that sure individuals accumulate cash from the herders to permit them entry into the group, an motion that emboldens the herdsmen.
