An order by the Federal Capital Territory Safety Committee has banned protests in Abuja.

 

This comes as #EndSARS protesters proceed in Abuja and different components of the nation.

 

The committee alleged violation of COVID-19 protocol for issuing the ban.

 

The FCT Administration mentioned it was involved that regardless of the scrapping of the Particular Anti-Theft Squad by the Inspector-Normal of Police, Mohammed Adamu, final Sunday, the demonstrations had continued, inflicting inconveniences to law-abiding residents.

 

The resolutions of the assembly had been contained in a press release on Wednesday titled,’COVID-19: FCT Safety Committee prohibits avenue demonstrations,’ signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the FCT minister, Mr Anthony Ogunleye.

 

The assembly which held on Tuesday to evaluation the safety scenario within the FCT and deal with recognized challenges, was chaired by the FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Bello and had in attendance the Everlasting Secretary, FCTA, Mr Olusade Adesola, heads of the assorted safety companies and navy formations within the FCT, senior members of workers of the FCTA, representatives of non secular and conventional establishments in addition to Space Council chairmen.

“These violations endanger the lives of not simply the demonstrators, but in addition different residents going about their reliable issues.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the COVID-19 pointers regulating public gatherings suggest bodily distancing, temperature checks, the usage of facial coverings, amongst others.

“Clearly, all these pointers had been flouted by the protesters. Consequently, the committee directs that as a result of risks posed by COVID-19, all avenue demonstrations, protests and processions won’t be allowed wherever inside the FCT.”

 

The committee famous with satisfaction the directive by the President, Main Normal Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) to the IGP to disband the SARS in addition to different reforms geared toward enhancing the effectiveness of the Nigeria Police.
