The federal authorities has been accused of blackmailing the Tutorial Employees Union of Universities following a current directive stopping the salaries of college workers who haven’t enrolled on the Built-in Personnel and Payroll Data System.

ASUU described the federal government’s order as a way to weaken employees and make them enroll on the platform.

The Chairman of the College of Port Harcourt Department of ASUU , Dr Austen Sado , who spoke on Sunday , defined that although a few of his colleagues had not been paid salaries since February , the union wouldn’t be cowed into enrolling on IPPIS .

Sado, who spoke on the phone, stated , “It ( directive to cease salaries ) clearly exhibits that there’s something the Federal Authorities will not be telling the folks. They don’t seem to be paying us ( some lecturers) . So, why are they saying by November ?

“What they’re doing now’s simply blackmail and menace to see how they might weaken our members to go and enroll ( on IPPIS ) . Individuals who haven’t enrolled usually are not being paid ; some folks for eight months , some for 3 , going to 4 months . I’ve not been paid wage since July , whereas some folks haven’t been paid since February.

“They haven’t paid us due to IPPIS . Just a few of the those that registered with IPPIS are being paid . However after they pay them , they don ’t even get the total complement of their salaries; a few of them declare that they get like N 50 , 000 , N 60 , 000 , and we’re speaking about senior lecturers and above.

“A professor advised me that what he’s getting is N 100, 000 ( as month-to-month wage ) and but they need to put extra folks into that . However we have now resolved that we’ll not succumb to this blackmail.”
