FG Recants, Says Nigeria Is Not Constructing Rail Line To Niger Republic

The Presidency has stated Nigeria authorities won’t assemble rail line to Niger Republic.

 

This comes after severe backlash from Nigerians following the announcement by Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, that the Federal Govt Council (FEC) approval of $1.96 billion was for the development of a rail line to hyperlink Kano, Dutse, Katsina and Maradi within the Niger Republic, the Presidency has stated the development will solely get to a chosen level on the border.

 

Amaechi, whereas asserting the approval at a post-FEC briefing on the presidential villa, Abuja on Wednesday, had stated: “The second (approval) is the award of contract for the event of the proposed Kano-Katsina-Jibia to Matadi rail line within the Niger Republic and to Dutse, the capital of Jigawa, for a complete price of $1,959,744,723.71, inclusive of seven.5% VAT.”

 

However in a tweet on his private deal with, @GarShehu, on Thursday, the Senior Particular Assistant to the President (Media & Publicity), Garba Shehu, stated the settlement was reached between Nigeria and Niger in 2015 for the Kano-Katsina-Maradi Hall Grasp Plan (K2M).

 

He stated each nations agreed to construct a rail line to the “border city of Maradi.”

 

Maradi is the second-largest metropolis within the Niger Republic and the executive centre of Maradi Area and in addition the seat of the Maradi Division.
