Following his election victory over the weekend, the Unbiased Nationwide Electoral Fee (INEC) has issued certificates of return to Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, and his deputy, Phillip Shaibu.


The Nationwide Commissioner, INEC in command of Edo, Rivers, and Bayelsa, Mrs Could Agbmuche-Mbu made the presentation on Tuesday on the INEC workplace in Aduwawa, Benin Metropolis, the Edo State capital.

“I hereby certify that Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki of Peoples Democratic Celebration (PDP) has been elected to the workplace of governor of Edo State of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on the election held on the 19th of September 2020,” Agbmuche-Mbu stated whereas presenting the certificates to Obaseki.


Governor Obaseki was returned elected by INEC after polling the best variety of votes within the keenly-contested election performed on Saturday, September 19.


INEC Returning Officer for the ballot, Professor Akpofure Rem-Rukeh, declared the governor because the winner on Sunday on the workplace of the electoral umpire in Benin Metropolis, which doubled as the ultimate collation centre.


The governor secured 307,955 of the full votes, 84,336 extra votes than his closest rival Ize-Iyamu, who obtained 223, 619 votes.
