Man Utd want Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde as Paul Pogba replacement

Manchester United have reportedly added Real Madrid star Federico Valverde to their transfer wishlist as they begin to plan for life without Paul Pogba.

The French international is expected to force a move away from Old Trafford at the end of the season after only making eight appearances this campaign.

Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola has been locked in a war of words with United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, adding fuel to talk of a move away.

Juventus and Real are the two most likely destinations for the 27-year-old midfielder.

According to Spanish publication Diario Madridista, the Red Devils will attempt to sign Valverde if they lose Pogba.

Valverde has become a key component of Zinedine Zidane’s side this year, even forcing Luka Modric out of the starting XI.

The 21-year-old has a £460million release clause and the La Liga giants are desperate not to lose their young star.

But it is claimed United will push forward are try to turn Valverde’s head by offering him the chance to return the club to their former heights.

Playing alongside new £47m signing Bruno Fernandes may also be an exciting proposition for the Uruguayan.

United have been linked with several midfielders ahead of the summer window as they are also drawing up plans to capture Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish.

Leicester ace James Maddison is also said to be on their transfer radar.

But former United midfielder Jonathan Greening has urged Solskjaer to move for the former.

“Over the past few months, there’s been talk of Grealish coming or Maddison coming,” Greening told the Metro.

“I actually feel I would prefer Jack Grealish.

“Maddison is a very good player, super technical, he can create, great passing both short and long, and great on set plays.

“Jack Grealish, however, has that little bit of difference, he can take players on, he can drive forwards with the ball, and slide that pass through.

“He’s got that bit of grit and determination; and doesn’t like losing, you can see that in his game.”
