Mob Goes Wild, Attacks FRSC Officer For Pushing Driver From Moving Truck In Delta (Photo)

Mr C. U. Mgbede, an officer of the Federal Highway Security Corps, Delta State Command, narrowly escaped dying on Thursday as an indignant mob nearly lynched him for allegedly pushing a truck driver out of a transferring automobile, The PUNCH experiences.

The officer was mentioned to have jumped into the truck in a commando model and allegedly pushed down the motive force after efforts to take over the steering failed on the Benin-Asaba Expressway, Asaba.

Eyewitnesses informed our correspondent that the motive force landed on the paved street and was gasping for breath, which attracted the mob, who pounced on the officer.

The FRSC response workforce was mentioned to have arrived the scene of the incident and evacuated the motive force and Mgbede to the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba.

When contacted, the FRSC Sector Commander, Delta State, Mr Alphonsus Godwin, denied that the officer pushed the motive force out of the truck.

He mentioned, “The person was requested to cease on the checkpoint, as a result of he was not utilizing the seatbelt; relatively than stopping, he moved forward and the marshal jumped into the automobile and took management of the steering wheel.

“He stopped the automobile instantly and was making an attempt to impound the automobile when the mob stormed the scene and beat the officer to a pulp.

“Earlier than our response workforce received to the scene, the mob had brutalised the officer; our males carried the 2 of them, who have been laying on the bottom, to the FMC, Asaba. This is among the challenges we face on the job when automobile house owners strive to withstand arrest.”

The sector commander emphasised that the officer didn’t push the motive force down from the steering wheel as was speculated.
