Nigerian Airspace To Be Shut Nationwide As Aviation Unions Back Labour Strike

As many as 4 aviation unions have backed the Organised Labour nationwide strike anticipated to start on Monday, The PUNCH experiences.

The unions requested their members to withdraw companies from all aerodromes nationwide indefinitely.

With this, airspace is probably not open for operations from Monday.

This was confirmed to The PUNCH by the Normal Secretary of the Nationwide Union of Aviation Staff, Aba Ocheme.

He mentioned, “Certain. Airports won’t function from Monday.”

The 4 aviation unions becoming a member of the strike are the Nationwide Union of Air Transport Staff, Nationwide Affiliation of Plane Pilots and Engineers, Air Transport Companies Senior Workers Affiliation of Nigeria and the Affiliation of Nigeria Aviation Professionals.

An announcement from the unions on Friday learn, “As you might be conscious, the NLC and TUC have declared indefinite nationwide strike motion with impact from Monday, September 28, 2020.

“Our unions as above named are in full assist of the strike motion.

“As such all staff within the aviation sector are hereby directed to withdraw their companies in any respect aerodromes nationwide as from 00hrs of 28th September 2020 till in any other case communicated by the NLC/TUC or our unions. All staff shall comply.”
