NLC Reacts To Controversial Water Resources Bill, Gives National Assembly Serious Warning




The Nigeria Labour Congress has requested the Nationwide Meeting management to halt passage of the the Water Assets Invoice into regulation.


It mentioned the invoice portends nice hazard to nationwide unity.


Based on Punch, the congress mentioned the Nationwide Meeting mustn’t ambush Nigerians by surreptitiously bringing again the invoice, which seeks to vest the management of all water sources throughout the nation within the President.


Recall that there was outrage over the invoice in 2018 when the eighth Nationwide Meeting was divided over it.


However the invoice resurfaced at the moment Nationwide Meeting as that the Home of Representatives on July 23, 2020, referred it to a “committee of the entire,” for third studying and passage.

Lending his voice to the nationwide resistance to the invoice, the NLC President, Ayuba Wabba, famous that the invoice was earlier rejected in 2018 with good causes.


Wabba, in an announcement in Abuja on Monday, titled, ‘Don’t ambush Nigerians,’ mentioned the nation had sufficient challenges than to courtroom recent and dear controversy.

Towards the backdrop of the robust sentiments expressed towards the invoice from practically all sections of the nation, the NLC president strongly suggested that the invoice shouldn’t be resurrected.

However a board of trustees of the Pan Niger Delta Discussion board and Nationwide Coordinator, South-South Elders Discussion board, Chief Anabs Sara-Igbe in an interview with The PUNCH, mentioned the Niger Delta area was towards the invoice.

The state Commissioner of Info and Technique, Ini Ememobong, in a chat  with The PUNCH, mentioned the state authorities  had instructed members of  the Nationwide Meeting to reject the invoice


On his half,  Benue State  Governor, Samuel Ortom, vowed to sue the Nationwide Meeting members if the invoice was handed.


Ortom lamented the recycling insurance policies aimed to assist herdsmen.


He acknowledged, “Let me say this, if the Nationwide Meeting passes the Water Assets Invoice which was despatched as an govt invoice by the President, I’ll take them to courtroom. Water Invoice won’t be accepted right here in Benue State.”
