Over 380 Lawyers Sign Petition To Strip Malami Of SAN Title

A minimum of greater than 380 attorneys have signed a petition demanding that the Legal professional Normal of the Federation, Mr Abubakar Malami, be stripped of the title of Senior Advocate of Nigeria.

 

In accordance with Punch, the petition, began on Change.org by Izu Aniagu, is titled, “Signal to strip Nigeria’s AGF, Abubakar Malami the title of Senior Advocate of Nigeria”.

 

Aniagu predicated his petition on the latest unilateral amendments to the Guidelines of Skilled Conduct for Authorized Practitioners 2007 by Malami.

 

He stated the unilateral modification was a menace to the rule of regulation, coupled with Malami’s different alleged wrongdoings, akin to “disobedience to court docket orders, to his lacklustre prosecution, to his outright failure to prosecute, to allegations of corruption and bias towards his individual, to the usurpation of workplace, to shielding of suspects, to his normal dereliction of responsibility.”

 

The petition added, “This time, the AGF has determined to take his imprudence to top-notch by unilaterally deleting the provisions of the Guidelines of Skilled Conduct which offer for stamp and seal in addition to bar practising price for presidency attorneys.

“The AGF doesn’t have such energy. Part 12 (four) of the LPA provides the Normal Council of the Bar energy to make any such modification and make different selections in regards to the NBA.

“There isn’t any file of any assembly convened by the Legal professional Normal of the Federation, who’s the President of the Bar Council. The AGF took the choice alone and his actions represent a menace to the rule of regulation. His motion is completely shameful and is undeserving of a lawyer within the rank of a Senior Advocate, not to mention a Chief Legislation Officer of the federation.”

As of seven.57 pm on Sunday, 383 attorneys had signed the petition.
