The Suspect, Mary Jeremiah

The police have arrested a girl recognized as Mary Jeremiah in Benue State for robbing a provision retailer with a locally-made pistol and knife.

She has been remanded in jail on the order of a magistrates’ court docket in Makurdi.

The police charged Jeremiah, who lives in Ofoke Ojope, Apa Native Authorities Space of Benue, with felony conspiracy and theft.

Justice of the Peace Erdoo Ter, who didn’t take the plea of Jeremiah for need of jurisdiction, ordered that she be remanded within the Makurdi Correctional Centre.

Ter then adjourned the case till October 22 for additional point out. The prosecution, led by Inspector James Ewache, advised the court docket the case was reported on the police station in Ugbokpo by the complainant, James Sunday of Efu-Ugbokpo, Apa LGA on August 30.

He alleged that Mary Jeremiah, who pretended to be a buyer, entered the complainant’s retailer with two others with a locally-made pistol and knife. Ewache alleged that Jeremiah robbed him of N373,755 and an Infinix IV mobile phone, value N69,000.

The prosecution, nevertheless, stated investigation into the matter had not been accomplished and prayed the court docket for an adjournment. The offence, he stated, contravened the provisions of sections 6(b) and 1(1)(2)(a)(b) of the Theft and Firearms Particular Provision Act 2004.
