SERAP Drags Buhari, IGP; Seeks Injunction Defending Protesters

On Thursday, October 15, The Socio-Financial Rights and Accountability Undertaking (SERAP) approached the Federal Excessive Courtroom in Lagos searching for an injunction backing and defending the #EndSARS protesters

In a contemporary lawsuit, which has the President Muhammadu Buhari; the Inspector-Basic of Police, Mohammed Adamu; Commissioner of Police, Lagos, Hakeem Odumosu; and the Lawyer Basic of the Federation, Abubakar Malami; as defendants, SERAP prays for an order defending the protesters from harassment.

The protesters had come below assaults each by policemen and suspected state-sponsored thugs.

SERAP is urging the courtroom to subject an injunction restraining Buhari and the opposite respondents sending their brokers to “harass, arrest, detain or in some other method infringing on the elemental rights of peaceable protesters within the EndSARS/SARSMustEnd / ReformPolice protests or some other peaceable protest in Nigeria.”

The group requested the courtroom to declare that Buhari has no authorized proper “utilizing members of the Nigeria Police Drive via the first and 2nd respondents, the navy and different paramilitary formations to intimidate, threaten, ‘arrest’, beat, harass, shoot, kill and detain unarmed peaceable protesters within the ‘EndSARS/‘SARSMustEnd’/‘ReformPolice’ .”


It requested the courtroom to declare such clamp down on protesters as a violation of sections 33, 34, 35, 36, 39, 40 and 41 of the Structure of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 and Articles four, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10 and 11 of the African Constitution on Human and Individuals’s Rights [Ratification & Enforcement] Act Cap. A9, Legal guidelines of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
