ThankGod Joseph, an 18-year-old boy, has been remanded in a correctional centre for allegedly killing his 40-year-old father, The PUNCH studies.

Joseph was introduced earlier than a chief magistrates’ court docket in Markurdi, Benue State, on Friday for culpable murder, an offence punishable beneath Part 222 of the Penal Code Legal guidelines of Benue, 2004.

The suspect, who lives within the Ikwokwu-Ito, Obi Native Authorities Space of the state, was consequently charged with homicide.

The Information Company of Nigeria studies that the presiding Chief Justice of the Peace, Vincent Kor, didn’t take Joseph’s plea for need of jurisdiction.

The Justice of the Peace ordered the police to ship the case file to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions for authorized recommendation and adjourned the case until November 25, 2020 for point out.

Earlier, the prosecution counsel, ASP Hyacinth Gbakor, informed the court docket that the case was transferred from the Divisional Police Headquarters, Obi by way of a letter dated September 21, 2020 to the SCIID, Makurdi for correct investigation.

He alleged complainant, one Philip Agbo, reported the matter on the police Station, Obarike-Ito, Obi on September 14.

“Joseph hit his father, Igiri, after he accused his son of stealing his mobile phone. Igiri, fell down and died on the spot,”
Gbakor informed the court docket.
