Tanker Drivers Set To Begin Strike In Lagos At present

The Nationwide Union of Petroleum and Pure Gasoline Staff (NUPENG) has mentioned that the deliberate strike by Petroleum Tanker Drivers in Lagos would begin on Monday as its assembly with Lagos State Authorities resulted in impasse.

The South-West Chairman of NUPENG, Mr Tayo Aboyeji, disclosed this in an interview with the Information Company of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Sunday.

Aboyeji mentioned the problems which compelled the drivers to provoke an indefinite strike was not addressed throughout the four-hour assembly with officers of Lagos State Authorities on Sunday.

“They solely promised to get again to us after we’ve advised them what we wish to avert the strike.

“Now, our stand nonetheless stays that they need to deal with the problems of extortion and harassment of our members by safety brokers.

“Safety brokers and hoodlums are extorting our members and officers of the Lagos State Site visitors Administration use taser on our drivers and this may kill.

“Since they aren’t prepared to deal with these points, we’ll begin the strike on Monday morning till they can resolve them.

“It’s unlucky that the strike would possibly have an effect on all different states within the federation as a result of most of them load their petroleum merchandise in Lagos depots.

“We aren’t comfortable to disrupt gasoline provide as a result of we all know the impact however we can not proceed to deal with the issues,” he mentioned.
