UN Elects 4 New Security Council Members, Africa Excluded




The United Nations Normal Meeting (UNGA) has elected 4 new nonpermanent members into the Safety Council for a two-year time period which begins on January 1, 2021.


Sadly, no African nation made the checklist.


On Wednesday, India and Mexico clinched the Asia-Pacific, and Latin America and the Caribbean seats.


Eire and Norway gained a seat every for the “Western European and others” group, beating Canada, the third contestant.


Nonetheless, the election into the vacant African seat was inconclusive, NAN studies.


Neither of the 2 contestants, Kenya and Djibouti, secured the required two-third majority votes of 128 to clinch the coveted seat.


Kenya secured 113 out of the overall 192 legitimate votes forged whereas Djibouti polled 78 votes.


Saying the outcomes, UNGA President, Tijani Muhammad-Bande, stated one other spherical of election can be held on Thursday.
